Frequently Asked Questions / FAQ
INCLUSION & BARRIER-FREE in cargo bike
Safety & suitability – Who can use the Inclusion Bike?
Who is the inclusion bike suitable for?
The Inclusion Bike is a sporty e-cargo bike for anyone who loves cycling. People with disability or mobility limitations who can’t ride themselves sit up front on the comfortable seat bench.
- Suitable for children, adolescents and adults in families, residential groups or social institutions.
- The passenger sits up front in view, close to the rider – visible, in conversation, right in the middle.
- Ideal for leisure, therapy, everyday life and care.
- Even dogs find a place to ride along.
How safely does the passenger sit in the inclusion bike?
All seats are safe, sturdy and adjustable. The seating position can be tailored to individual needs.
- Wide Seat bench with comfortable padding.
- Various belt options (1/3/4/5‑point) ensure reliable safety.
- Optional: handholds and custom seat mounting.
- Through sprung tilt technology fährt the bike calmly, evenly and tip‑safe, also on cobblestones and forest paths.
Is the cargo bike approved or certified for people with disabilities?
The Mäx & Mäleon is EFBE/VDE certified and meets the strict requirements for single- and multi-track cargo bikes according to DIN79010.
- Developed and tested to professional cargo‑bike standards.
- Robust steel frame and chassis designed for continuous loads up to 250 kg.
Can assistive devices or companions be taken in the inclusion bike?
Yes. The concept is designed to make everyday mobility easy.
- Companions can ride the bike or sit beside children on the seat bench.
- Aids, bags or small rehab devices fit on the cargo deck, in the trunk, or on the rack.
- The low step (optional) makes getting on and off easier.
Which safety belts and supports are available?
Mäx & Mäleon offers various belt systems and handholds that can be tailored to each individual.
- Standardly, a waist belt with quick‑release buckle (2‑point belt) is installed.
- 3/4/5‑point belts for children and adults are optional.
- Additional body supports can be customized.
- Optional handholds and headrests boost comfort and safety on longer rides.
Entry & Stability – How to get in and out?
How does boarding the inclusion bike work?
Entry is at the front via the low step, with the bike staying securely in place thanks to the locking mechanism.
- People with limited walking ability can brace themselves and slide sideways onto the seat bench before placing their feet on the bike.
- Frame and backrest provide natural handholds when sitting down.
- The suspension ensures a quiet stand even on uneven ground.
- Depending on mobility, you can board independently or with assistance.
- The low step (optional) eases access for people with limited mobility – allowing near‑level boarding from a curb, like a low‑floor bus.
Why does the passenger sit in front and not in the back?
Because it’s about closeness, participation and safety. Sitting at the front means being seen, being able to speak up and actively taking part in the action.
- Driver and passenger stay in direct contact.
- Conversations during the ride are as natural as in a car or train – they build trust and a real sense of community.
- The front position also provides overview, safety and joy while riding.
Is the entry also suitable for people with limited mobility?
Yes. The design of the inclusion bike is low‑barrier and well thought out – for anyone who wants a bit more support.
- Hand grips and backrest provide safety when sitting down.
- Low step (optional) eases access without edges or obstacles, even with limited mobility.
How stable is the bike when getting on and off?
The bike stands firmly on three wheels without tipping.
- The tilt system stays locked when stationary – the bike stays upright.
- One parking brake prevents rolling when getting on.
- Even on slightly uneven ground, the chassis stays calm.
- The entry feels safe and controlled.
Equipment & Customisation – Do my aids fit?
What seating options are available for the inclusion bike?
The inclusion bike comes standard with a bench seat for children and adults, but can be customized.
- Comfortable seat bench with padded backrest (70 cm wide).
- Additional padding, handholds and harness systems provide secure grip.
- If desired, individual solutions can also be realized – for example for people with limited core stability or jerky movement impulses.
How individually can the seating position be adjusted?
There is the right seat for every person. We love tinkering and already have plenty of experience.
- Seats can be adjusted for size and posture.
- Belts, padding and handholds can be mounted flexibly.
- The goal is always that the person sits safely, upright and relaxed.
- This lets people with very different needs ride comfortably.
- The seat bench and backrest are designed with extra mounting points for special rehab seats, allowing a medical supply store to build and securely attach its own custom seat.
Can wheelchairs be safely carried in the inclusion bike?
Yes. Wheelchairs can either be folded or taken on the loading platform with an adapter.
- Important: wheelchair transport needs custom solutions, not in the configurator. Contact us!
- Wheelchairs are quite large – for this reason Mäx & Mäleon offers an extended and reinforced frame (+25 cm loading platform length, i.e., 85 cm). Corresponding accessories are also available.
- Very narrow wheelchairs (e.g., for kids) can be attached to the passenger or transport bike’s cargo area with an adapter.
- A folded wheelchair fits under the seat bench of the passenger bike (with the combo wall extended) or via an adapter on the luggage rack.
Can rehab buggies be taken with the inclusion bike?
Yes. Rehab buggies can be attached with an adapter.
- Adapter set available for xRover; other models can be custom‑fitted.
- The adapter is bolted directly to the cargo platform and holds securely.
- Allows a person and rehab buggy to be carried together as one.
- This makes the switch between bike and buggy especially easy.
- Mäx & Mäleon assists with assembly and provides suitable accessories on request.
Do protective roofs or covers for rain and sun exist?
Yes, there is a weather canopy for persons up to 1.5 meters tall.
- Transparent canopy against rain, wind and insects.
- With UV protection for summer rides.
- Ventilation openings for fresh air.
- For adults there is the padded weather blanket with rain protection.
